This anon requested me to do a tutorial for a horror RPG map! ( ´ ▽ ` )ノ
I’m sure there are better ways to do maps (and my maps aren’t the best) but I’ll explain how I do them! All the maps of this game are done with parallax mapping, that means that I make them using Photoshop CS5 (But you can use other similar programs!)
1. Make a grid, each square should be 32x32 pixels (View>Show>Grid). To adjust the Grid Preferences go to Edit>Preferences>Guides,Grid & Slices
2. I paint in white what will be the floor and in pink what will be the walls. This isn’t necessary, but I think it is helpful!
3. I add the floor and the walls.
4. It’s time to add the furniture! (*^▽^*) Remember that the are lots of free resources to use. If you want to change the color of a piece of furniture go to Image>Adjustments>Hue/Saturation or CTRL + U
5.Oh… But the map doesn’t look very mysterious, right? This is when I use adjustment layers!
I usually use the Levels to make the map darker and the Color Balance to edit the colors.
6. Finally, I add the shades and the lights!
Final result:
Now you will need to import the map into RPG Maker. I only know how to do it in RPG Maker VX Ace and I’m not sure if the process is the same in all the versions so I prefer not to explain it.
You can find plenty of tutorials about how to import your maps into RPG Maker, so don’t worry! It’s more easy than it seems, I promise! ^o^ The scripts that I use are Yanfly Parallax Lock and Galv’s Layer Graphics.
